Media Protection Services is a non-statutory investigative and prosecution body whose objectives are to combat counterfeiting and infringement of intellectual property rights at every level. It operates under the auspice of integrity through confidentiality and security.

It was the brainchild of its founder, the former owner Ray HOSKIN, who identified the need for a specialist body to address the problem of copyright protection. MPS deals with these issues in an economic, effective and timely manner by the application of the criminal law to combat offences utilising various legislation including the Copyright Designs and Patents Act 1988.

The investigation and operational element of the company comprises of staff of the highest integrity specifically selected from a variety of backgrounds including the Police, Military, Trading Standards and Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs with in excess of three hundred years of combined experience in investigative roles.

The company policy is based on ethical principles and although a non-statutory body MPS strictly adheres to the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1988, the Criminal Proceedings Investigations Act 1996 and the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000. By following the correct procedures and legislation each case is judged on its own merits with correct decisions made as whether reject any investigations that fall short of the required level of evidence.

All investigations are conducted to the highest standards and only lead to a prosecution when it passes the ‘Prosecution Test’ namely: where it is in the public interest, would not damage the interests of justice and there is a realistic prospect of securing a conviction.
